Improving learning outcomes, lowering costs
The scaling up of online learning at Statistics Netherlands is deliberately being carried out in phases. Wim Burgers explains why: “Obviously, we are aiming to improve learning outcomes and reduce costs. But we are aware that these things can’t be done overnight. The use of modern learning tools is not a goal in itself. That is why we are first going back to basics and asking ourselves, ‘What do we stand for as an organisation, what do we expect from our employees, and how should they develop?’
Only then do we look at how we can go about answering this. By developing new curricula, for example, or by facilitating formal and informal learning, by embedding the online learning environment in the organisation, and so on. First, we are making a policy plan. That way, we can avoid making unprofitable investments and we can set up guidelines that help shape employees’ development. This means that Statistics Netherlands will remain future-proof and will enable us to continue providing our customers with the right statistical information at the right time.
About Statistics Netherlands
“Statistics Netherlands provides statistical information for the public and private sectors. It has been doing so since 1899. Statistics Netherlands gathers, analyses, and publishes information about numerous fields, such as population, crime, public finances, education, housing, and prices. Both national and European government bodies often base their policies on figures from Statistics Netherlands. It therefore goes without saying that Statistics Netherlands aims to provide top-quality information.
